Darth Sidious's Twin Lightsabers: Hidden in Plain Sight
Share
Palpatine spent decades within arm's reach of the Jedi Council while carrying two lightsabers, and nobody ever found them. That's the most impressive thing about these weapons — not what they did, but how long they sat hidden.
He kept a matched pair of slim, ornate hilts concealed in his Chancellor's office, stored where an unarmed politician's belongings would never be searched. The design is deliberately elegant rather than martial: narrow bodies, fine detailing, nothing that reads as a soldier's tool. They look like the possessions of a man who collects rare objects, which is exactly the cover he was maintaining.
The first one came out when Mace Windu arrived to arrest him. Palpatine killed Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin and Kit Fisto in a matter of seconds — three Jedi Masters, one blade, almost no wasted movement. Windu was better, and disarmed him, which is where the performance of the frail old man began.
The second saw use against Yoda in the Senate chamber, a duel that ended with the Republic's two most powerful figures throwing furniture at each other in the room where the Republic had been governed.
Twin hilts are among the harder things to display well, and among the most striking when it's done right. shop sabers
