Kyle Katarn's Inherited Blade (Legends)
Share
Kyle Katarn didn't start as a Jedi. He started as an Imperial officer, defected, and spent his early career as a mercenary taking contracts from the Rebel Alliance — including the run that stole the Death Star plans. He was a soldier with a blaster and no particular interest in mysticism.
His lightsaber came to him secondhand. It had belonged to Qu Rahn, a Jedi killed by the Dark Jedi Jerec, and reached Kyle along with the knowledge of his own father's Force sensitivity. The hilt was a straightforward, functional piece of Jedi construction, and the blade ran blue.
What makes Kyle interesting is how badly he handled it. He went to the Valley of the Jedi, drew on the dark side to win fights he could have won otherwise, and had to be talked back. He later gave up the Force entirely — twice — before accepting that he was going to be a Jedi whether he liked the job description or not.
He eventually became a respected instructor at Luke's academy on Yavin 4, which surprised nobody more than Kyle. Over his career the blade appears in several configurations and colours, orange among them, reflecting a man who kept rebuilding both the weapon and himself.
A weathered, working hilt has a particular appeal. shop sabers
