Mara Jade started her career as the Emperor's Hand — a covert operative trained by Palpatine himself, sent after targets the Empire wanted removed without an official record. She carried a lightsaber given to her by the Emperor, which is a fairly good indication of how she was regarded and how little she was trusted with independence.
Everything about her weapon history changed after Endor. Cut loose by her master's death, working as a smuggler and eventually as Talon Karrde's second, Mara ended up fighting alongside the man she'd been ordered to kill. She trained at Luke's academy on Yavin 4 and, in the tradition she'd never been taught, built her own lightsaber.
The blade she made ran magenta-violet. The hilt was a compact, unadorned design that suited a fighter whose background was infiltration rather than open battle — she'd spent a decade learning to work without a weapon that lights up a room.
She carried it as a Jedi Master, as a member of the reformed Order, and as Luke's wife, through the Yuuzhan Vong War and beyond. Legends being what it is, her end came at the hands of family, killed by her nephew Jacen Solo as he descended into the Sith.
